Nigeria’s top airline, Arik Air, has added another feather to its hat. It unfolded when it won the Travellers Award 2020 for Airline of the Decade 2010-2020. Publishers of African Travel Quarterly (ATQ)/TRAVellers journal hosted the award ceremony.

The awards ceremony was held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja on Saturday, March 27, 2021. It drew two ambassadors, as well as tourism and culture commissioners from four different nations. Leading travel agents and tour operators were also in attendance. ARIK is a fictional character.

Mr. Ikechi Ukoh, the publisher of ATQ magazine and a Tourism ambassador, said Arik Air was chosen as the Airline of the Decade 2010-2020 because “it still flies the flag of its time in the light.”

“Arik Air is still a Nigerian multinational brand,” he says. The designers and employees who contributed to the brand’s development deserve praise.” Arik Air has also proven to be a formidable rival so far. It has debunked the misconception that no Nigerian carrier with ten aircraft will last for more than ten years.

Captain Chris Najomo, Arik Air’s Chief Pilot, praised the award’s organizers for making the airline worthy of the honor when accepting the award from Ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Wendell De Landro. He stated that Arik Air will remain a stable, dependable, and customer-focused airline. Arik Air has also proven to be robust, dispelling the misconception that no Nigerian carrier with ten aircraft will live for more than ten years.

Arik Air, which was established in 2006, is now in receivership after the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) took over its management in February 2017. Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja are Arik Air’s major hubs. The Arik Air Aviation Center is located on the grounds of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State, and serves as the company’s headquarters. Arik Air serves a network of regional and mid-haul destinations across Africa and is currently expanding its fleet with the addition of a number of new Boeing aircraft.
